HR executives still slow to adopt social technology: IDC

Although HR buyers are increasingly recognising the importance of social technology, mobile, cloud and analytics are still seen as more important, according to IDC’s 2015 MarketScape report on the worldwide social technology for integrated talent management market.

Despite the challenges winning over HR executives, talent management vendors are bringing forward good technology and compelling social use cases, the report said.

Eleven vendors were evaluated in the report, with Cornerstone OnDemand, Peoplefluent, Oracle Talent Cloud, SilkRoad, SuccessFactors, an SAP Company, and SumTotal named in the ‘Leaders’ category.

Other vendors evaluated were ADP, Halogen Software, IBM, Infor, and Saba.

“Results of IDC HR buyer research over the past three years show that the importance of social technology is on a steady rise in the minds of HR buyers,” said Lisa Rowan, research vice president, HR, talent, and learning strategies, IDC. 

“However, mobile, cloud, and analytics are still seen as more important than social technology by HR executives. As a result, uptake of social technology in talent is slow with an aggregate average penetration rate of just 15-20 per cent.”
