In its first major update in more than four years, SAP has launched the 7.1 release of application management solution, SAP Solution Manager, which expands the tool’s control mechanisms to non-SAP environment.
The new version was previewed at SAPPHIRE NOW, held in Orlando in mid-May.
SAP claims the new solution will offer companies one management platform – including tools for designing, graphical blueprinting, testing, configuring, deploying, monitoring and operating – for their entire portfolio of SAP and non-SAP solutions, removing the need for customers to buy separate management tools for different types of software.
With around 50 to 60 per cent of SAP customers currently running Solution Manager, SAP said the 7.1 release will significantly broaden what customers can do now with the solution, delivering reduced costs and improved business efficiency across the enterprise.
On the release, Uwe Hommel, executive vice president, SAP Active Global Support, said, “We listened to our customers and designed a preconfigured and powerful management tool that goes outside the SAP landscape, delivering value throughout the entire enterprise.”
SAP Solution Manager 7.1 will first be available to selected customers in the Ramp-Up program, ahead of general availability in August 2011.
