SAP, a leader in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software solutions for business operations and customer relations management, unveils SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, customer edition. This brand-new deployment model allows customers to leverage the company’s private cloud SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud and license subscription while maintaining their SAP software landscape and data on-premise—within their own data center environment.
According to SAP, the new solution is being launched in partnership with key global hardware infrastructure as a service (IaaS) providers, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
HPE and SAP have been in a strategic alliance in delivering simplified, integrated digital core IT systems with the right-fit infrastructure, software, and services that target the real-world challenges faced by businesses today. In 2018, HPE won SAP’s prestigious North America Partner Excellence Award for SAP HANA Innovation in recognition for its outstanding performance in driving digital transformation for joint HPE-SAP customers in the region. This marked the second year in a row that HPE has been named a winner in this category.
The two multinational companies share 25,000 joint customers worldwide and have been in a collaborative partnership for over 30 years—together HPE and SAP offer service-led, asset-powered, end-to-end solutions.
Under the two companies’ broadened partnership for the new deployment model of SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, customer edition, HPE will supply, install, and manage the required infrastructure for the customer’s landscape in a secured environment via the HPE GreenLake platform, while SAP will contribute their software through the SAP HANA database, including the full SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud catalogue of apps.
What is SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, Customer Edition?
SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is SAP’s ‘fastest path to the intelligent enterprise’ that empowers organisations to unlock SAP HANA’s full potential in the cloud. It is a fully-scalable and secure privately managed cloud solution that comes complete with:
- a reference architecture
- a flexible, coordinated suite of managed services
- comprehensive, end-to-end 99.5% service-level agreement (SLA)
- innovative pre-built tools for rapid deployment
SAP has been actively transforming this cloud solution in response to customer needs and demands. Previously, the company offered the flexibility to run SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud in SAP data centers or use hyperscalers. However, customers also needed the option to run the solution in their own data centers due to the need for data sovereignty, specific industry compliance, a low-risk tolerance, and specific company policies. Several customers also noted that they had limited or no access to SAP data centers or hyperscaler infrastructure options.
This is why the new deployment model was launched—to serve as a turnkey solution at the customer’s data center. According to SAP, the customer edition provides customers the ability to shift from a capital expense to an operational expense (OPEX) business model. Moreover, SAP Cloud Application Services will support the day-to-day running of the applications and help customers with the adoption of SAP S/4HANA.
SAP Executive Vice President and Global Head of Enterprise Cloud Services said,
“The new deployment model SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, customer edition is a direct response to customers who want the flexibility and service level of a managed private cloud, but need to keep their systems in their own data centres, such as public sector and regulated industry customers. We are planning to make that possible with cloud services from HPE GreenLake and white-glove operations and application management services from SAP, which will help unlock value and create new experiences for our joint customers.”
