ASX-listed mining group Yancoal will migrate its on-premise SAP solution to the cloud, under a new five-year contract with ASG Group Limited.
ASG will deliver the SAP ERP ‘New World’ solution for 2000 users at Yancoal, hosted on AWS, along with an Application Managed Service (AMS) and an Infrastructure Managed Service (IMS).
Gareth Flannery, ASG general manager – enterprise applications and analytics, said the contract win showed the customer benefits the ‘New World’ solution can deliver.
“We’re delivering a consumption model where Yancoal pays as it uses, removing the traditional weighty burden of capex commitments that come with infrastructure refresh cycles and on-premise solutions,” said Flannery. “It also allows clients like Yancoal to rapidly scale to meet demand without long lead times, capital expenditure and resource underutilisation.”
Flannery said the shift to the cloud will provide some “serious cost reductions” and move away from ageing on-premise hardware. At the same time, the project will enable Yancoal to use technology to improve efficiencies and decision-making, including being able to leverage products from SAP in the fields of mobility, Internet of Things, data management and analytics.
Yancoal is majority owned by Chinese group Yanzhou Coal and recently acquired the Coal and Allied business from Rio Tinto.
